COURSE OUTLINE
IMPROVISATION
Understanding, and practical applications of the techniques and skills of improvisation. Development of creative thinking and listening leading to a fuller understanding of impulse, reaction, emotional truth and character development.
SCENE STUDY
A practical look at the makings of a Modern Actor.
Work on the Actor's Craft by refining the process, an in depth examination of script analysis, and two-handed scene presentation. The major emphasis in this course will be physicalizing the intention. Classes will also be held on AUDITION TECHNIQUES (monologue and cold readings).
Through the investigation of improvisation, monologues and scenes, this practical course will provide tools that emphasize acting as "doing". The actor will learn to compellingly physicalize actions and objectives, and personalize the material to meet the demands of our highly diversified profession.
ACTING FOR TELEVISION & FILM
In this course students will learn how to create a relationship to the camera lens, how to make the necessary adjustments from stage to film, technically, emotionally, and physically, and how to deal with nerves. We will cover audition technique for film and television including how to approach sides, dealing with a reader and taking direction. Students will learn how to make a truthful connection in order to deliver the most believable, compelling reading.
VOICE & TEXT
This course is designed to aide the student in expanding his/ her range of emotional expression through physical techniques for vocal development. The voice must be flexible and responsive in order to realize the rigorous demands of acting. In this course we will explore techniques which amalgamate vocal, physical and emotional expression with text. There is a living link between a character's body and voice; the depiction must support the text. The actor's voice and body must be unbound from impediments such as habit and presupposition. This course will also cover vocal anatomy, text analysis and phonetics (IPA--International Phonetic Alphabet) as applied dialects.
MOVEMENT FOR ACTORS
This course is designed to aide the student in expanding his/her range of emotional expression through physical techniques. In term one; the course will focus on physical staged combat. In the subsequent terms the student will develop the ability to focus on kinesthetic information, and balance internal and external impulses. The classes will explore general movement concepts such as time, space and energy, and movement tools such as gesture, prop and manipulation. The classes will investigate emotional expression through movement improvisation and ensemble work.
